Starbucks

Some people think I am a bona fide nut. I live over an hour from the nearest Starbucks. I have to (gasp) make my own coffee. Every. Single. Day. My Starbucks (and when I say Starbucks I am including ALL coffee shops) visits remain in the single digits per year of life. Sometimes this make me sad. I LIKE coffee shops. I like the smell, the selection, the baked treats. Whipped Cream. Not washing dishes.

On the other hand, people can be quite annoying. As can traffic and paying for something you already have at home. And then I have this waiting to greet me most mornings….deer

….the ladies who live behind us.

For some unknown reason the turkeys thought they were invited to coffee too...

I love the ladies, their children are well-behaved and rarely seen or heard. They dress modestly in neutral colors, leave before their company becomes stale and have no problem if breakfast never varies.

I love the ladies also because they think if they stand really, really still they are invisible.

The only issue I have with the ladies is when they munch on my baby fruit trees. And my vegetable garden.  See this here?

Not only is this mama deer licking her lips. She is licking her lips looking directly at my corn that is almost ready to be harvested.

Maybe they like a little variety after all. Or maybe it is because one is expecting, you know how those cravings are!

It's okay. I planted extra.

Sometimes the ladies even show up for evening cocktails, after a day dodging cars, running from humans,  caring for kids, searching for something good to eat….wait a second.  Lord, I think I am a deer.  Oh well, cocktails for everyone!

  1. I have a very similar neighbor living in the woods behind our horse barn. Sometimes she and her baby visit. The horses don’t seem to mind, and the baby is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

    • Amen to that! A couple of days ago we saw a chicken snake in the road that went almost the entire way across! I didn’t run over him since he was about 1/4 of a mile from my coop, but it was tempting! I love the deer though! 🙂

      • We’ve had our run of snakes in the yard this year. I guess if I can kill spiders in the bathtub I can kill a snake…..ugh! big difference. lol
