Big Biscuits

I like big biscuits and I can not lie………

Especially on Sunday mornings with deer sausage and homemade butter.  ‘Cause when you have a big biscuit you can say ‘I only had one” and not feel bad about it!

Image Just for the record, I only ate half.

The Specifics~

Mama’s Buttermilk Biscuits

4 cups flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup brown sugar

2/3 cup shortening

2 eggs, lightly beaten

2 cups buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450.  Sift together dry ingredients, cut in the shortening with a fork until crumbly.  Add the eggs and buttermilk.  Stir together until well mixed, turn out onto a floured surface and knead 8-10 times, just until no longer sticky.  Don’t overwork.  Pat out into a rectangle about 1 1/2 inches thick and cut into squares.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and done in the middle.

Serve hot with butter, honey, jam, whatever you wish!

This recipe can also be cut in half to yield 4 huge biscuits or 6 normal size biscuits.  🙂
