Sunday Morning Musings

Do you ever feel like if you don’t speak, write or scream you may explode? And you’re not exactly sure what you want to say? Or write? Or scream? That’s how I’ve felt most of this pleasant Sunday morning. Something itching under the surface, roiling under the skin and slamming around the edges of my skull. It’s maddening actually, because it isn’t tangible. It’s just……there.

Squirrel for Hire

I suck at math.  On a primal, dismal, below the surface level.  Adding and subtracting are important so you can check your bank accounts.  Fractions are important when you’re baking cakes.  Simple fractions that is, like 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and MAYBE a sneaky 1/3 or 2/3 if you feel like getting fancy.  Division is important…

I have not forgotten you……

Since I began this blog almost 2 years ago, this has been my longest break.  I have barely even seen my computer these past couple of weeks.  It wasn’t an intentional break, it just kinda happened.  Rather than go on and on about all the pitiful reasons I’ve abandoned y’all.  I’ll simply let my pictures…

Pumpkin Feeder

I am aware that recently I’ve bombarded your news feed and in-boxes with silly poems and walks.  So, I figured I better post something at least half-way useful.  If you are like me, and still have pumpkins from Halloween on your porch and a Christmas wreath on your front door, you will find this helpful. …

Fairy Land

Addie, my daughter who is 7, has recently become slightly obsessed with fairies and fairy houses.  She builds fairy houses EVERYWHERE.  I no longer have any empty clay pots, warped metal bowls or unused containers of any kind.  They have all congregated under the porch holding various bits of moss, mud, water, acorn shells, sea…

When you give a teenager cake….

Fact:  When a teenage boy has a birthday is takes .253 seconds to turn a whole cake into half a cake. The ‘homeschool mom’ part of my brain is considering turning this into a fraction lesson for Addie. Maybe, maybe not.  It is Saturday after all and fractions were never my favorite. Happy Birthday Gus,…

Wicked Walk 10/29/2014

Stress makes me ill therefore Wednesday October the 29th I was fairly feeble with the strength of a over-cooked noodle.  It made me really mad too because this was the absolute most beautiful day of the year.  Mid 60’s, partly cloudy, slight breeze, trees beginning to change colors and I couldn’t make it out of…

A Brief Thought

I haven’t had much time to write this week, no time actually.  But I did manage a thought.  I find it very funny that when people find out you homeschool, their initial reaction is always (at least in my experience) something along the lines of “How is she going to make friends!?”,  “Aren’t you worried…

Making Time

In a former life that I was living about 3 years ago I found myself almost 50 pounds overweight.  My dress size was well in the double digits.  I had back boobs.  Not cool.  I was able, thru dieting, to shed the weight.  It took eight months.  As soon as I dropped back into a…

Book Lover

I remember learning to read.  My mother had a race car chart on the fridge that was supposed to inspire me and track my progress.  I’m not sure if I ever finished ‘the race’ however I remember when I finally determined that reading was essential to life.  I was around the age of seven and…
