Out of the Ordinary

Life can get pretty ordinary. Work, shower, eat, sleep, repeat. It can drive someone insane, if they stop long enough to think about it. As Johann von Goethe said “A man can stand anything except a succession of ordinary days.” Although in 2020, I don’t think there have been very many days that could be…

Gophers, Deer and a Desk

This past weekend marked opening day of deer season in Texas.  And, considering we have a half of beef and several wild pigs in the freezer, I have decided to trophy hunt.  In other words, unless it is a massive buck, I’m just gonna sit and watch and enjoy being perched in a tree.  Alone.…

Wicked Walk 11/25/2016

I know, I know….this walk is from November.  But I’ve been a little busy with the holidays, building a house, working and home schooling and trying to keep everyone in clean underwear.  And you know, life. I can not tell you how ready I am in to be back in a house of my own.  To sip coffee…

Wicked Walk 11/11/2015

Here is the walk that didn’t get published last week, it was a brief walk but a good one. This is what I saw. The recent rain had mushrooms and fungi popping up all over the place.  As a matter of fact, the radar showed rain moving in early and staying all day.  Thus, the reason…

Wicked Walk 10/28/2015

Yesterday was my 33rd birthday and it was lovely.  It was made even more lovely by the fact we recently received over 2 inches of rain and a cool front.  So this Wednesday I donned a long-sleeve shirt and hit the woods about 8:30 a.m. Here is what I saw. My Redbud tree, hanging on…

The Still of the Fall

Wicked Walk 10/21/2015

Let’s try this again, shall we?  My fingers got ahead of my brain yesterday and some of you darling readers were delivered an almost blank post. I’m sorry about that.  Here we go.  Again. Meanwhile, back in Texas, there was a scarecrow trail. We went. And walked.  And it was 5:00 in the afternoon.  The…

Wicked Walk 9/2/2015

I love September.  I love that it ushers in fall, cooler weather (sometimes), deer and elk season are right around the corner and that means camping and camp fires and mountains and well, I just love September.  My first walk this September occurred in town but that was okay, Addie and I ventured out of…

Wicked Walk 11/26/2014

My morning was spent delivering pies, cakes and cornbread dressing.  People really are nice to you when you have pies, cakes and cornbread dressing. My afternoon was spent in the forest and it was a perfect day for strolling along and soaking up some sunshine. Here is what I saw. I’m not sure what this…

It’s Raining……..

It’s raining, it’s pouring…..the Silkies are mourning!  Their feathers are drenched, what a dreadful pinch, and they won’t be dry in the morning! Bless her heart, and we are supposed to get around 3 inches tomorrow. Thank goodness for a warm, dry home and a covered coop! Happy Friday all!
